MinimizeThe 7 Principles of UU

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;

  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;

  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;

  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;

  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;

  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;

  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

MinimizeAbout RE Staff and Volunteers

RE Staff

Three staff members administer the RE Program: an ordained Minister of Religious Education, Rev. Linda Olson Peebles; the RE Coordinator, Justin Martin; and the Youth Programs Coordinator, Andrew Mertz. The MRE works closely with the other ministers and staff, the RE Council and other groups throughout the church to provide quality programs and services for children and families. The RE Coordinator provides administrative and clerical support for RE teachers and adult education class leaders.  The Youth Programs Coordinator works with the Youth Ministry Committee to oversea the ministry to and for youth in grades 6th thru 12th. Please get to know them and let them know how the program can best meet your needs!

Office Managers and Greeters

Every Sunday during the RE year, volunteers serve as RE Office Managers (one for each service). Office Managers help to set up and disassemble the classrooms, assist teachers and parents with immediate needs, provide coffee, tea, and snacks for the teachers, and collect and distribute information such as attendance and notices of events. Parents (and children) also serve as Greeters once a month. On Sundays, please do not hesitate to ask a question of the Office Manager or Greeter.

RE Council

As designated in the UUCA by-laws, the RE Council oversees the RE program, sets policies, and puts forward the annual budget. Members serve on the 12-person Council for three years, with four new Members appointed each year by the UUCA Board of Trustees. If you have any questions or concerns about the RE Program, please search out a Council Member or come to a Council meeting. Both a list of Council Members and meeting times are published regularly.

RE Committees

The RE program depends on the volunteer efforts of many people who sit on standing and temporary RE Committees. Committees prepare and coordinate Chapel and All-Church services, the RE curricula, Adult Education, social responsibility projects, RE physical-plant needs, special events, and many other RE activities. The RE Program welcomes, and tries to incorporate, the views of all RE families. If you are interested in the activities of any of these Committees, please contact the MRE at 703-892-2565.
